Welcome to our new web site for the San Diego Chapter of US Lacrosse! Here you'll find chapter contacts for players, coaches and officials as well as links to lacrosse suppliers, camps, teams, leagues and more. We hope you'll be able to find all the information you need right here, but if you can't, feel free to drop us an email. Enjoy!
It is our mission to promote lacrosse at every level in San Diego. We are a resource to the San Diego lacrosse community, providing information, guidance and assistance. It is our goal to serve every member and foster the growth of the sport we love. SDCGLA formed in January 1995 with 5 original organizations: Coronado, Fallbrook, Poway, San Pasqual and Torrey Pines. The original officers were: Matt Holman (Pres), Tracey Paul (VP), Kristina Webster (Sec), Arne Bolstad (Treas) and Lynne Beltran
(Umpire rep). Coaches were mostly UCSD players with some adult supervision. Each group also joined the Southern California Women's Lacrosse Assoc (SCWLA) and the Lacrosse Foundation.
In 1996, San Dieguito (now La Costa Canyon) and Serra joined with Poway adding a second team. Dot Harrop became the Secretary and Steve Whitman became the Treasurer. The first Association championship was held at San Dieguito HS with San Pasqual as champions. An exhibition game followed with 3 players from each
team. San Pasqual traveled to Thacher School in Ojai for the first ever CA State Championship. SP lost to Thacher in the finals.
Two divisions were created in 1997 to accommodate the 15 teams. In 1999, San Diego sent a team (called So. Cal.) of 17 players to the US Lacrosse National Tournament in Ohio. By 2000, SDCGLA included 26 teams. Stacey Sugarman (Poway) and Kelly Quissar (Coronado) were selected as our first USL All-Americans with Cristi Barnhart (Poway) chosen as an Honorable Mention.
